The newly named Engineering Innovation & Leadership major, or E-Lead, is an ABET accredited engineering degree that is changing the way engineering is taught by providing students with a diverse foundation of engineering knowledge, leadership theory, innovation skills, and an understanding of business. The E-Lead curriculum uniquely combines these key aspects in their course work, using real-life scenarios and projects to help students learn how to take initiative for engineering the future.

Leadership Skills
E-Lead is passionate about mentoring leaders with character. Character is a determination of personality, values and conduct. We believe in shaping individuals at their core. To achieve this, the E-Lead faculty and students cultivate an environment where individuals are mentored to develop an understanding of themselves, to become people of integrity and to nurture selflessness. Without character, leadership is incomplete. Good leaders care about the improvement of the lives they come in contact with. This one trait alone greatly reflects the intentions of the leaders in this program.
Effective and efficient leadership requires an elevated level of subject mastery. Collaborative, project-based learning experiences help students apply leadership theory, and synthesize and identify those leadership opportunities, all while applying their technical knowledge. E-Lead further develops competence by diversifying subjects and allowing students to focus on concentrations that pique their interests. E-Lead gives students a synthesized, multidisciplinary education that prepares them to thrive in today’s world.
E-Lead students are presented with diverse team-based challenges that incorporate multiple disciplines from day one of class. From project managing to research, students have the ability to excel at diverse roles, even teaching, widening the future possibilities available to them. E-Lead develops capacity by providing students with multiple opportunities to apply and synthesize diverse competencies, thereby building experience.
The Engineering Innovation & Leadership degree offers a unique approach by allowing students to customize their courses to their interests. E-Lead enables students to focus within engineering by selecting a Concentration from 7 different engineering sub-disciplines, listed below. The selected Concentration then becomes part of the student's structured plan of study within their E-Lead major. In addition to the core E-Lead classes and the selected engineering Concentration, E-Lead provides students the opportunity to pursue a multidisciplinary emphasis with electives in other fields that complement engineering, such as business, liberal arts, science, or education.
E-Lead offers students a "studio" environment as their classroom setting, where collaboration between students is preferred. E-Lead creates this by maintaining class cohorts, that progress alongside each other throughout the degree. E-Lead cohorts (group by entering class) create the opportunity for mutual trust, friendship, and growth in students, as they develop team-based skills, networking skills, and essential communication. E-Lead also offers an exclusive workspace known as, The Studios, where students not only have class, but where they can meet on campus after hours, use the available technology, and create and work on their projects. The Studios are a collaborative hub only available to the E-Lead students.
